Many areas across the US have received a water quota that restricts the amount of water that the area can use. Conserve water in your own home in order to maximize the use of this resource and prevent extra costs of using too much.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, you use water for drinking, cleaning dishes, washing hands and much more. To conserve the amount of water you use, install a faucet that uses low water pressure. These are relatively inexpensive and can cut back on the amount of water that you don't even notice is wasted.
Consider a specialty dishwasher that uses less water than traditional washers. Like the controlled pressure faucet, this can have a drastic effect on your home's water usage, and it comes at a price only slightly higher than a regular washer.
Finally, store drinking water in a pitcher in the refrigerator. This will prevent you from running the tap while you wait for cold water to come out.
Bathroom
In the bathroom, shut off the water while you brush your teeth, shave and wash your face. Make showers only as long as you need to get clean, and avoid baths, which waste gallons of water.
A low pressure faucet would be ideal for a bathroom as well as a kitchen. Also consider a more efficient toilet. They use less water, and some models even allow you to choose between a half-flush and a full flush to minimize water use. Another benefit to buying one of these toilets is in case the handle on your current toilet sticks so that the water unnecessarily runs.
