Tung Oil

Tung oil is a special kind of oil gathered from the seeds of a Tung tree. It is very good at finishing wood because it is water resistant and able to protect the wood from small scratches. Tung oil can be picked up at some hardware stores.

• Step 1: Make sure the wood you will be using it on is clean and dry.
• Step 2: Apply a large amount of Tung oil to a cloth and rub it into the wood. Continue rubbing in the oil until it can't soak any more up.
• Step 3: Use a clean cloth to rub the wood dry.
• Step 4: Allow the wood to dry for 12-24 hours.
• Step 5: Rub "0000" steel wool on the wood once it has dried and do one or two more coats with the same process.

Repairing Small Holes With Tung Oil

If you scratch the wood there is a chance that it can be repaired with more Tung oil. Simply repeat the process on more time on the side of the wood with the scratch. Once you have finished the scratch should blend in and feel the same as the rest of the board.
