There are a number of annuals that thrive and provide vibrant colors in partial or full shade.
- Impatiens - These flowers are inexpensive and grow fast. Impatiens need water often, though are fairly resistant to insects and diseases. They come in a wide variety of colors, from white to orange to deep purple.
- Begonias - These are pretty basic flowers that come in shades of red and pink. They are also inexpensive and do well growing in containers.
- Caladiums - This is actually well-liked for its foliage rather than its flowers. Caladiums foliage is striking in pink, red and white.
- Fuchsia - Fuchsias are often sold in hanging baskets and they tend to be more expensive. They are gorgeous flowers, but can sometimes be a challenge to maintain.
- Pansy - Pansies are very cute flowers that require regular watering. They are hardy and can survive in tough conditions.
- Torenia - Torenia does best in moist soil and blooms all season in pink, purple or white. They thrive in containers and groupings, or they work great as an accent.
- Globe Amaranth - This is a beautiful round flower can grow in purple, magenta, pink, red and white. Globe Amaranth does well as an edge flower or in containers.
- Viola - Viola is an old favorite. If cut back after its first bloom, your plant will bloom again in the fall.
