Sub-Flooring
What is the condition of your sub-floor? Is your sub-flooring wood or concrete? This will make a difference in the performance of your laminate floor. If you have a damaged concrete floor, a laminate with an attached underlay is probably the best option. The underlay will help to fill in the damage and make it less noticeable as you walk across the floor.
Permanence
Do you plan on keeping the flooring down for a long time? Do you like to change things often? Laminate flooring is sometimes called “floating” flooring. This is because you can install it on top of the sub-floor without any glue or adhesive. However, installing a laminate floor with glue or adhesive will help to keep it in place and prevent it from ‘floating’.
Traffic
Consider the traffic pattern when you choose your laminate floor. High traffic areas will show wear much more quickly. If you are placing laminate floor in a hallway or other high traffic area, you may want to invest in a nicer quality floor that will hold up longer.
