Ceiling Mount Extension Assembly and Installation Made Simple

Follow these tips to keep your ceiling mount extension installation as simple as possible.

Kits

The easiest way to install a mount extension is to purchase a kit that includes everything you need. If you purchase the components separately you will have a long list to take with you to the hardware store. All mount extensions will install in different ways as well.

Weight

Just as the mount itself had weight restrictions, the extension bar will as well. Be sure you know how much your TV, projector or speaker weights and the mount assembly weighs before purchasing the extension. Electronics are pricey, and you won’t want to have to replace yours because it comes crashing down.

Adjustable

Some mount extensions come in a set size, while others are extendable by a few inches. Depending on your needs, an extendable model may be a better option. This will allow you move the extension arm up or down as needed. This is great if you ever plan to remodeling or even move furniture around. If you ever move your screen, you may need to adjust the height of the extension arm to gain the best possible picture.

However, if you’re not planning on making many changes to the screen or the room, a set height extension arm may be right for you. They generally cost less and are easier to install.

Ceiling Type

The type of ceiling you have will determine what hardware you need to install your extension. Knowing what you need beforehand is the best way to save a headache before you start. If you have a drop ceiling, the installation method will be different than if you don’t. Find out if you’ll need a drop ceiling kit, drywall screws, columns, etc.

Directions

Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer when installing your extension arm. Since all extensions will be different, there isn’t a way to find universal instructions for them. The kit you purchase should have all steps clearly outlined.

Measurements

Taking accurate measurements before you start to install will save you a lot of time and energy later. You’ll need to know exactly where you’re placing the extension, where the projector needs to be for optimal picture quality, and the location of studs in your ceiling. Remember the old saying: measure twice and drill once!

Preparation

Take the time to familiarize yourself the installation process included with the ceiling extension you’ve purchased. If you do run into problems, there are plenty of professional audio/video installation experts available to help you..
